During the pregnancy of woman after 4 to 5 weeks, a cord
which connects a baby in the womb to its Mother is called Umbilical cord, The
umbilical cord that connects the mother and the baby inside the womb nurtures
the baby throughout pregnancy by carrying oxygen and nutrition to the baby.
Once the baby is born, the umbilical cord is cut and discarded as medical
waste. Research has shown that umbilical cord has a lifetime role to play. It
is the richest source of stem cells in the human body for lifesaving. Cord
blood comes from a newborn’s umbilical cord and can be collected immediately
after baby's birth. It contains richest source of stem cells that have been used to regenerate
healthy blood and immune systems. But about this Stemcells so many peoples are unaware.
An umbilical cord blood contains stem cells - similar to those found in the bone marrow - and which can be used to generate red blood cells and cells of the immune system. An umbilical Cord blood stem cells are currently used to treat a range of blood disorders and immune system conditions such as leukaemia, anaemia, autoimmune and so on diseases. These stem cells are used largely in the treatment of children but have also started being used in adults following chemotherapy treatment.
It is so precious then why we are not storing Umbilical cord stem cells of
baby and which is supposed to be 1st ever precious gift to
baby, Because to store the same it costs to so many Lacs and which quite
expensive to the most of the peoples.Then what is this Stemcells.............
